Alabama Rowing Closes Regular Season Against SMU

DALLAS – Alabama rowing squared off against the SMU Mustangs Friday evening in its last regular-season regatta of the spring, winning two of its races.
"Today, we had mixed results," UA head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "We had to adapt to the conditions and race earlier than we anticipated, but so did SMU. In two races we responded well, and in two we didn't. There are certainly things we need to improve, but learning resilience is most important."
Alabama's Second Varsity 4+ got things underway, crossing the line first in 8:08.19. The Crimson Tide's First Varsity 4+ was the second crew to come down the course, finishing second at 8:06.54. Alabama's Second Varsity 8+ won its race, finishing at 7:06.84, before the First Varsity 8+ wrapped up the competition with a 7:02.16 second-place finish.
"Our goals are within reach and we have three weeks to prepare," Putyrae said. "We'll be ready."
The Tide returns to action in two weeks, returning to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the Big 12 Conference Championships, May 19.
