Alabama Athletics Places 66 on SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

The Crimson Tide led all conference men's basketball and men’s swimming and diving squads with eight and 21, respectively, on the winter list
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A total of 66 University of Alabama student-athletes earned a place on the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Wednesday. The Crimson Tide ranked second among schools that don't sponsor equestrian and fifth overall.
Alabama also led all conference men's basketball squads with eight honors and all men's swimming and diving programs with 21 student-athletes earning a place on the winter honor roll. Men's basketball was led by senior Riley Norris, who is slated to receive his master's degree next month. Men's swimming and diving was led by NCAA Champions Robert Howard, Laurent Bams, Knox Auerbach and Zane Waddell.
All 10 members of this year's Alabama gymnastics team eligible by class (student-athletes must be a sophomore or better to earn the accolade) made the list, ranking the Tide third among the league's gymnastics squads, led by All-American Abby Armbrecht, who will also receive her master's degree in May.
A total of 22 members of the Alabama women's swimming and diving team earned a place on the SEC Academic Honor Roll, ranking fourth in the SEC, led by All-American Justine Macfarlane. Five women's basketball players earned a spot on this year's honor roll, the fifth-best total in the league, led by Taylor Berry who will graduate in May.
To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing. The winter list honors those student-athletes that participate in men's and women's basketball, gymnastics and men's and women's swimming and diving as well as equestrian and rifle.
So far this academic year, Alabama has placed 166Â students on the SEC Fall and Winter honor rolls. Additional names will be added to the Tide's tally when the spring and first-year lists comes out later in the spring.
