AUGUSTA, Ga. – Alabama junior Jiwon Jeon will compete this week in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur. The event will be held April 3-6 and features 72 of the top women's amateur players in the world.
The first two rounds of the event will be played on Wednesday and Thursday at the Champions Retreat Golf Club, with the top-30 players advancing for the final round on Saturday at the famed home of The Masters. On Friday, all 72 players will be able to participate in a practice round at Augusta National Golf Club before the top 30 take the stage on Saturday morning.
The tournament is the first-ever women's event at Augusta National.
Jeon earned her spot at the inaugural event by virtue of her No. 6 World Amateur Golf Ranking. During the Crimson Tide's 2018-19 campaign, the Daegu, South Korea, native leads the team in stroke average (70.17), average vs. par (+0.05) and rounds in the 60s (7), while also topping Alabama with five top-20 finishes in the seven tournaments she has played this year.
The highlight of Jeon's first Division I collegiate season came when she captured medalist honors at The Schooner Fall Classic – the second tournament of the year – with a school record 17-under par 196 (66-64-66). In doing so, she became the first Alabama golfer in program history to finish a 54-hole tournament with a sub-200 score. She also set Alabama's 36-hole school record at the same tournament (130).
Jeon will tee off Wednesday's opening 18 holes at 10:12 a.m. ET (9:12 a.m. CT) off Hole No. 10 and begins Thursday's second round at 10 a.m. ET (9 a.m. CT) off Hole No. 1. The players will play both days on the Champions Retreat Golf Club, located in suburban Augusta before making the move to the Augusta National Golf Club on Friday and Saturday.
Golf Channel will have coverage throughout the tournament with highlights, interviews and live programming. Saturday's final round will be covered live on NBC from 12-3 p.m.
