TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama concluded its spring schedule Friday night in Foster Auditorium, earning a four-set victory over Jacksonville State.
The Crimson Tide rallied from a 23-25 loss in the opening set to win three straight, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22 before the teams played an extra fifth set, which Alabama won, 15-13.
"We used everybody on the team and they all did what we have been reinforcing in practice," UA head coach Lindsey Devine said. "The energy and effort was really consistent. Getting our setters to try and speed up our offense will take some time but they are valuing that and understanding it. When we were able to execute that, we saw some positive dividends."
The Tide offense was extremely efficient across the five sets, as Hayley McSparin led the group with 15 kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Erin Curl reached double-digit kills as well, finishing with 10 and a .400 clip. Ginger Perinar hit .500 with eight kills while Kaylee Thomas finished with 23 digs.
"The team has really taken care of each other this spring," Devine said. "They recognize each other for great plays and lift each other up. There's a sense of unity within the team. That's the biggest thing I've seen grow from this group over the spring."
Friday's match concludes the Tide's spring slate, as they will resume a full practice schedule later this summer before opening the 2019 season in late August.
"Each one of the young ladies have some goals that they will continue to work on over the summer," Devine said. "We'll continue to get in the weight room and build our strength. When we come back in July, we're going to keep ourselves focused on playing with energy and discipline to keep getting better.
"When we executed the things we worked on in practice, they saw the results. When it didn't happen immediately, they kind of fell into old habits. What I want them to work on over the summer is focusing on the little details, because if they do the results will come."
