The Crimson Tide ties Vanderbilt in the Southeastern Conference with six honorees
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Six members of the 2018 University of Alabama football program have been named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Alabama and Vanderbilt lead the Southeastern Conference with six honorees. The Crimson Tide student-athletes who earned the distinction are defensive back Keaton Anderson, offensive lineman Joshua Casher, tight end Hale Hentges, wide receiver Derek Kief, linebacker Christian Miller and offensive lineman Jonah Williams.
In addition to receiving NFF Hampshire Honor Society accolades, Anderson, Hentges and Williams efforts in the classroom earned them CoSIDA Academic All-American accolades. Hentges was also the SEC Scholar Athlete of eh Year in 2018.
Now in its 13th year, the Hampshire Honor Society recognizes football players who have completed their career the previous season, are starters or significant reserves, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher throughout their college career.
The NFF recognized 1,643 players from 424 college football programs at all levels, eclipsing the previous record of 1,274 honorees in 2018. The initiative has now honored 10,660 student-athletes since its inception, and the program has experienced growth every year in either members or school participation since its launch in 2007.
