Freshman Carlee Giammona notches a goal in the first half
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team tied Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson, 2-2, Saturday afternoon at the Alabama Soccer Complex.
The Crimson Tide charged down the field and got on board early, courtesy of freshman Carlee Giammona's goal.
Alabama held a 1-0 lead at half, but Clemson responded with back-to-back goals in the second half. The Crimson Tide never gave up and was rewarded with an own goal by Clemson in the final two minutes to result in the final score draw.
The Tide returns 18 letterwinners from last season's team that finished with an 8-8-3 overall record. Alabama earned its first win over a top-five ranked opponent in program history, with a 1-0 shutout victory over then-No. 5 Texas A&M on Oct. 18, 2018. The Tide's 2019 recruiting class was recently recognized by Top Drawer Soccer as the No. 12 recruiting class in the nation.
Up next, Alabama will host defending Southeastern Conference champion Vanderbilt, Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m. CT. Admission to all home games is free to students and fans.
