Angelica Moresco in contention for medalist honors, Kenzie Wright cards lowest round by any golfer in the event
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – For the second consecutive day, Alabama sophomore Angelica Moresco carded a 1-under par 70 and is in fourth overall with a 36-hole score of 2-under par 140 (70-70) after Saturday's second round of play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Moresco comes into Sunday's final round just four shots back of Florida State's Frida Kinhult, who owns a two-stroke lead on the field with a 6-under par 136 (68-68).
Not to be outdone by Moresco's performance, Wright was even better on Saturday as the junior matched her career-best 18-hole total with a 4-under par 67. Not only did she shoot a career-best round, but it was the lowest single-round total by any golfer in the entire field over the opening 36 holes of play. Both Moresco and Wright played near flawless golf on Saturday's second round, as the duo combined for nine birdies and 23 pars compared to just four total bogeys. Additionally, the seven total birdies for each golfer through 36 holes is tied for third-best among the entire field.
Junior Jiwon Jeon also improved from her first round 76, finishing two strokes better at 3-over 74 on Saturday. She will enter the tournament's final 18 holes in a tie for 49th overall with a two-day score of 8-over par 150 (76-74). Freshmen Mary Mac Trammell (85-81) and Carolina Caminoli (85-83) round out the Tide golfers with a 166 and 168, respectively.
Florida State, ranked No. 19 entering this weekend's tournament, shot an impressive 3-under par as a team on Saturday and vaulted into the top spot on the leaderboard with a 565. The Seminoles own an eight-shot lead over No. 3 Duke (573). Thirteenth-ranked Wake Forest (575) is in third, followed by tournament host and No. 10 South Carolina (580) who is in fourth. Rounding out the top five positions are No. 23 Furman and LSU, who are tied at 583.
