Alabama Earns 14 SEC Indoor Track & Field Honors

A total of eight men and six women earned Southeastern Conference honors following the recent SEC Indoor Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A total of 14 members of the Alabama track and field teams earned Southeastern Conference honors following the recent SEC Indoor Championships the league office announced Wednesday.
The Crimson Tide had eight men and six women on the conference lists, including two earning First Team All-SEC, 10 with second-team recognition and two SEC All-Freshman honors.
"We're proud to have so many student-athletes earn conference honors," UA head coach Dan Waters said. "It says a lot about our program and the kind of team we have that we had so many different student-athletes from so many different events rank among the best in the SEC."
Sophomore Tamara Clark and senior Portious Warren, who won the SEC Indoor 200 meters and shotput titles, respectively, both earned First Team All-SEC accolades.
In addition to Clark and Warren, four other members of the Alabama women's squad earned All-SEC accolades, with senior Stacey Destin, junior Abigail Kwarteng, senior Haley Teel and senior Kiara Williams, earning a place on the second team. Clark, Warren, Destin and Teel all repeated as All-SEC honorees.
On the men's side of the slate, seniors Kord Ferguson, Will Herrscher, Gilbert Kigen, Vincent Kiprop and Keitavious Walter, along with junior Shelby McEwen, earned Second Team All-SEC honors. All six men also earned All-SEC recognition previously in their Crimson Tide careers.
Chago Basso and Bobby Colantonio Jr., added to the Alabama men's haul of conference honors, with both earning a place on the SEC All-Freshman team.
The Tide closes out the 2019 indoor season this weekend at the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 8-9 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Alabama advanced 13 student-athletes to the championships, including Clark, Destin, Warren and Williams on the women's side, and Colantonio, Ferguson, Kigen, Kiprop, McEwen and Walter for the men.
