The Crimson Tide will be honoring nine seniors, facing off against Jacksonville and Creighton
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama rowing is set to host its final home regatta of the spring season Saturday, welcoming Jacksonville and Creighton. The teams will square off on the Black Warrior River beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
"We are excited to be hosting Jacksonville and Creighton for our Power of Pink regatta tomorrow," UA head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "We are also going to be honoring our seniors for everything they have contributed to the University and to our team. The environment will be fun and festive and the racing will be competitive."
The regatta will feature two sets of races, a standard 2,000-meter race followed by three sprint pieces. The Tide and the Dolphins will open things up at 9 a.m. CT in the Third Varsity 4+. One crew from each school will then compete in the Second Varsity 4+ at 9:15 a.m. CT. At 9:30 a.m. CT, two Crimson Tide crews will square off against one Jacksonville crew in the Third Varsity 8+. One crew from each school will then compete in the First Varsity 4+ (9:45 a.m. CT) and the Second Varsity 8+ (10 a.m. CT), before wrapping up the 2k racing with the First Varsity 8+ at 10:15 a.m. CT.
After a 25-minute break, the teams will go head-to-head in three sprint-style pieces to conclude the day's races. At 10:40 a.m. CT, the 1V4+/2V4+ sprint will begin, featuring a total of six crews, two from each school. The 3V8+ sprint (10:50 a.m. CT) will feature one crew from the Dolphins and two crews from the Tide. Competition will wrap up at 11 a.m. CT with each school racing two crews in the 1V8+/2V8+ sprint.
"We hope to see a lot of people down at Manderson Landing to cheer on our seniors and their teammates in their last race on the Black Warrior," Putyrae said.
Alabama will be back on the road next week, as it heads to Sarasota, Fla., for the Sunshine State Invitational, April 5-6.
