Jeon, Wright Lead Alabama Women’s Golf in Opening Round of Evans Derby Experience

Crimson Tide in 11th overall after Saturday’s opening 18 holes of play
OPELIKA, Ala. – Juniors Jiwon Jeon and Kenzie Wright ended play on Saturday ranked among the top-25 golfers in the field to lead the No. 18 Alabama women's golf team in the opening round of the Evans Derby Experience. As a team, the Crimson Tide carded a total of 13-over par 301 and is in 11th place overall entering Sunday's second round.
The tournament features one of the top fields in the nation that every squad in the 14-team field ranked among the top 50 teams in the nation, according to Golfstat.com. Nine teams, including the Crimson Tide, are ranked among the top 20 nationally entering this weekend's play.
Jeon, who entered this weekend's tournament ranked No. 6 in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings, led Alabama on Saturday as she collected six birdies to go along with a pair of bogeys and double bogeys to finish the day with an even par 72. It was the eighth round of par or better this season for the Daegu, South Korea, native, who will come into Sunday's second round in a tie for 10th place.
Wright had four birdies and five bogeys on the day to finish with a 1-over par 73 on the par-72, 6,250-yard Saugahatchee Country Club. She will enter the second round in a tie for 21st overall.
Sophomore Angelica Moresco finished the day with a 3-over 75 and is in a tie for 42nd place. Freshman Mary Mac Trammell is in 81st after shooting an 81 on Saturday, while junior Anna Reid, who is competing in her first tournament for the Crimson Tide this weekend, rounds out the UA golfers in a tie for 83rd with an 82.
Arkansas, the nation's eighth-ranked team, is the clubhouse leader after carding a 3-under par 285 on Saturday and was the only squad in the entire field to shoot below par. Seventh-ranked Florida (288) is in second, followed by No. 2 Texas (290) and tournament host and No. 13 Auburn (290), who are tied for third. Kent State (292), ranked No. 14 in the nation, rounds out the top five teams.
The Crimson Tide will tee off the second round of play on Sunday morning off Hole No. 1 at 9:20 a.m. CT. Alabama will be paired alongside Auburn and Louisville. Live scoring throughout the event can be found on Golfstat.com.
