TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball played the first of two spring matches at Foster Auditorium Thursday night, defeating UAB in four sets by scores of 25-18, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-16.
"I thought there was great carryover from the things we were working on in practice and we implemented the key elements well," head coach Lindsey Devine said. "We want to be aggressive in everything we do and take our opportunities at the service line to create some out-of-system balls."
The Crimson Tide offense was paced by junior Ginger Perinar's 11 kills, with junior Hayley McSparin adding eight kills with a .412 hitting percentage at the middle. Sophomore Kaylee Thomas paced the back-row defense with 27 digs while sophomore Meghan Neelon was strong at the service line with four aces.
"I was excited to see the interest from the fans that came to the match this early in the process. I would love to see that continue for our next match and that will create momentum to bring us into the fall."
Alabama plays a second spring match on Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. CT against Jacksonville State at Foster Auditorium and admission is free.
