Friday’s meet will mark the 10th regular-season meeting between the two teams over the last 13 years
NORMAN, Okla. – The Alabama gymnastics team is on the road for its last meet of the regular season, traveling to Norman, Okla., to take on the No. 1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners Friday at 6:45 p.m. CT at the Lloyd Noble Center.
"We continue to build and that's what this meet will give us another opportunity to do," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "Oklahoma is No. 1 in the nation right now and they are there for a reason. I always say that if you want to be the best, compete against the best. We have that opportunity on Friday."
The meet will be televised on Fox Sports Oklahoma and can be streamed on the Fox Sports Go App.
The Sooners have become the Crimson Tide's most-frequent non-conference opponent over the past dozen-plus years, meeting 10 times during the regular season since 2007. Over that span, the two teams have closed the regular season against each other five times, including this season, and opened the year against one another twice.
The two teams have nine NCAA Championships between them, with five coming during this most recent spate of regular-season meetings.
Alabama comes into the meet following a season-best 197.100 in a win over Auburn at last Saturday's Elevate the Stage meet. The week before, in Tuscaloosa, also against Auburn, Alabama posted season-best scores on the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise to beat the Tigers. Â Â
"We need to continue to attack the details, stay focused, stay in the Bama bubble and shine," Duckworth said.
Following Friday's regular-season finale in Norman, Alabama will travel to New Orleans for the Southeastern Conference Championships on Saturday, March 23.
