NEWS AND NOTES
• The Tide got back on track with only its second-ever win in Memorial Gymnasium after besting Vanderbilt, 84-65 on Thursday night. Four different UA players scored in double figures, including junior Cierra Johnson who led the way with 25 points after only totaling eight points over her previous two outings. The 19-point win was the largest margin of victory for the Tide in an SEC road game since Alabama defeated Ole Miss 82-62 in Oxford, on Jan. 14, 1998.
• Cierra Johnson has scored in double digits in 19 of the last 23 contests, including coming off a 25-point performance against Vanderbilt (2/21), just two points shy of tying her career high. She is currently first on the team with 14.2 points per game (15th in SEC) and in total assists with 78 (15th in SEC) through 26 games. Johnson is also the top-rebounding guard on the squad and third on the team with 4.5 per contest. The junior has twice as many free throw attempts (131 - 5th in SEC) and makes (97 - 7th in SEC) than any other player on the team. At the beginning of conference play, Johnson moved from shooting guard to starting at the point guard position with the injury to Jordan Lewis. Over those 13 contests, Johnson is averaging 14.8 points (13th in SEC), 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists (11th in SEC).
• Sophomores Jasmine Walker and Ariyah Copeland have both been double-double machines with Walker leading the team with five on the year, while Copeland has tallied four. Walker and Copeland are the first Alabama duo since the 1998-99 season to compile four or more double-doubles in the same season.
• Copeland has made significant strides from her freshman season to now. This season the sophomore is tops on the team with 1.2 blocks per game (9th in SEC) and second on the squad with seven rebounds (15th in SEC) per contest. Copeland is also putting up 8.1 points per game, compared to averaging three points a game in 2017-18. She is also averaging 1.2 blocks (T-5th in SEC) and 7.4 rebounds (10th in SEC) through 13 SEC games.
• Freshman Megan Abrams has been stepping up her play over the last four games, putting up 10.3 points per game. Abrams who has struggled shooting in her first year with the Tide is shooting 50 percent (15-of-30) combined in the past four games. She is also seeing an increase in minutes, averaging 31.4 per game over the previous five contests.
• Getting off to a hot start has been key for the Tide this season, when leading at half UA is 11-1, while when trailing, 1-13.
