Alabama Men’s Golf in 15th After Opening Round of Puerto Rico Classic

Crimson Tide ends play in first round carding an 18-over par 306
RIO GRANDE, PUERTO RICO – The No. 5 Alabama men's golf team is in 15th overall after the opening round of the 2019 Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Crimson Tide finished the day with an 18-over par 306 on the par 72, 6,902-yard Rio Mar Country Club River Course.
Freshman Prescott Butler and senior Alex Green are leading the Tide after each carded an opening round of 3-over par 75 in Sunday. The duo will enter Monday's second round in a tie for 45th overall. Sophomore Wilson Furr finished with a 77 on the day and is in a tie for 62nd overall. Freshman Frankie Capan (79) and sophomore Davis Shore (81) rounded out the Tide golfers in 71st and 74th, respectively.
N.C. State, ranked 28th nationally, leads the field after carding an 8-under par 280 to own a two-shot lead over No. 21 Georgia (282). Fourth-ranked Georgia Tech is in third at 5-under par 283, followed by Ohio State (285) and No. 13 Oklahoma (287) to round out the top-five teams.
This year marks the Crimson Tide's 15th consecutive year competing in the event, which included six team titles (2008, 2011-14, 2016).
Alabama will begin second round action on Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. ET (7 a.m. CT). Live scoring throughout the week can be found at www.golfstat.com
