Women’s Basketball Kicks Off Six-Game Home Stand with Big 12/SEC Challenge Versus Iowa State

The Crimson Tide and the Cyclones are set to play at 6 p.m. CT in Coleman on SEC Network
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team begins its six-game home stand against Iowa State in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Thursday night at 6 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide (5-2) is coming off playing two games in the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout, while the Cyclones (5-1), have won their last four games.
This is the only the third meeting between the two programs with the last coming in Honolulu, Hawaii on Nov. 29, 1998 and Iowa State taking the 61-58 win. This is the first meeting on either team's home floor.

Opening Tip
• The Crimson Tide is coming off of a 1-1 showing in the 2019 South Point Thanksgiving Shootout. The Tide first defeated Northern Iowa, 87-77, on Friday before falling to Southern Cal, 60-57, on Saturday night.
• Redshirt junior guard Jordan Lewis was named to the South Point Shootout All-Tournament Team with an average of 15 points and 5.5 rebounds in the two games. For the season, Lewis is averaging 12.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game, while senior Cierra Johnson is putting up 12.9 points and 6.0 rebounds. Junior Jasmine Walker is averaging double figures with 11.1 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game.
• The Tide has been dominant on the glass early on this season. Alabama ranks second in the SEC and 22nd in the nation with 16.4 offensive rebounds a game. UA is also No. 5 in the SEC and No. 36 in the nation in rebounding margin with a +9.6 margin.
• The Tide has found success in the second quarter. Alabama is outscoring its opponents 153-88 in the second frame.
• UA is averaging 7.1 three-point makes per game which is third in the SEC. In a two-game span against Tulane and Northern Iowa, Lewis knocked down 9-of-10 threes including career-high six threes in the win over the Green Wave. The team hit 18 threes over the two-game stretch.
About Iowa State
• The Cyclones have won by an average margin of 29.8 points in its five victories this season, while losing its lone game by five on the road to Drake on Nov. 10.
• Ashley Joens leads the team with monster numbers, averaging 23.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest. Kristin Scott is the only other player in double figures with 12.7 points and six rebounds each game.
• Last season, Iowa State was a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament before getting upset in the second round by No. 11 seed Missouri State.
• Iowa State is led by 25th-year head coach Bill Fennelly who has over 500 wins in his time in Ames.
