Alabama Set to Take on Undefeated UNC on Sunday in Tuscaloosa

The Crimson Tide and Tar Heels will tip off at 2 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama welcomes in undefeated North Carolina for its annual Holiday Hoops and Teddy Bear Toss game on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide (6-3) is coming off its win last Sunday over Colgate, while the Tar Heels (8-0) have a perfect record on the season.
This is the 10th meeting between the two programs, but the first in the last 20 years. The only time the teams met in Tuscaloosa was in the second meeting back on January 3, 1983, with UNC coming out with the 77-66 victory. Alabama last defeated the Tar Heels in a neutral site game on Dec. 20, 1996 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., 88-74.

• In its last time out, Alabama bounced back against Colgate on Dec. 8, defeating the Raiders, 72-52, while North Carolina eased its way to a 92-53 win on the same day over North Carolina Central.
• Leading the Tide is redshirt junior point guard Jordan Lewis who is tops on the team in points with 12.6 and three-point percentage, shooting 40.5 percent. Junior Jasmine Walker is coming off her best performance of the season when she picked up her seventh career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Colgate.
• In its last four games versus the ACC, the Tide has a 3-1 record. Alabama is 32-28 all-time against Atlantic Coast Conference teams. Earlier this season, UA defeated ACC-foe, Clemson on the road, 67-54 on Nov. 12.
• Lewis started the season shooting 1-of-14 (7.1 percent) from behind the three-point line over the first four games. In her last five, Lewis has been on fire, shooting 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) from beyond the arc.
• Senior Ashley Knight is just three blocks away from becoming the all-time career blocks leader at Alabama. Knight is just two away from tying Alabama great, Yolanda Watkins who finished with 187 career swats. She is the SEC active career leader in blocks and she still holds the single-season block record with 90 her freshman year.
• The Alabama bench has outscored its opponents, 306-155, in nine games this season. The reserves have accounted for 45 percent of the Tide's scoring, with its third-highest scorer in senior Cierra Johnson leading the way with 10.4 points per game off the bench.
About UNC
• The Tar Heels come into Sunday's game with a perfect record under first-year head coach Courtney Banghart. UNC is currently receiving 10 votes in this week's AP Poll for its 8-0 start.
• The matchup in Tuscaloosa is the first true road game for the Tar Heels, while the team has gone 6-0 at home and 2-0 at the Cancun Challenge against Temple and Missouri over the Thanksgiving break.
• All five of North Carolina's starters score in double figures with Janelle Bailey leading the way with 17.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest. Taylor Koenen (14.9), Madinah Muhammad (14.0), Shayla Bennett (11.5) also average double digits, while Malu Tshitenge is putting up 12.9 points and 9.1 boards per game.
• As a team, UNC ranks first in the Atlantic Coast Conference in assist/turnover ratio, fewest turnovers, scoring margin and scoring offense. The Tar Heels are averaging 82.9 points per game.
• Banghart is in her first season with Carolina after spending the previous 12 seasons at Princeton. During her tenure, Banghart led the program to eight NCAA Tournament appearances over the last 10 years, including a perfect 30-0 regular season record in 2015, as she was named the 2015 Naismith Coach of the Year.
