Martin and Plavin earn First Team Academic All-District honors for second consecutive year
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama seniors defender Nealy Martin and goalkeeper Alex Plavin were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, as announced by the association on Thursday afternoon. This is the second consecutive year these two athletes have earned this distinction and the third consecutive year that Alabama Soccer has been represented.
Both student-athletes carry a cumulative 4.0 GPA, are three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipients, and have received both President's List and Dean's List honors throughout their time at Alabama.
Martin will graduate in the spring with a degree in chemical engineering. She was named as one of three SEC Co-Scholar Athletes of the Year and also selected to the 2019 SEC Community Service Team. On the field, she has started and played in all 20 matches this season, amassing three goals and one assist. The team captain scored the game-winning goal versus Tennessee in double overtime to notch Alabama's first conference win, as well as the lone goal in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals against Vanderbilt.
Plavin will graduate in December with both her undergraduate and master's degrees in business management, specializing in human resources. As goalkeeper, she has started and seen action in nine matches, registered two shutouts and collected 29 saves between the posts this season.
The First Team All-District honors moves them forward to be contenders for the Academic All-American national ballot. Those results will be announced in December.
