The Crimson Tide sophomore was an SEC All-Freshman selection last season after he led the team in points and assists per game
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama sophomore Kira Lewis Jr. was selected as a preseason first-team all-conference honoree by a vote of the league's 14 head coaches, as the Southeastern Conference unveiled the 2019-20 Coaches Preseason All-Conference first and second teams on Monday afternoon.
Lewis is coming off a rookie campaign that saw him lead the Crimson Tide in nearly every offensive category including scoring (13.5 ppg), assists (2.9 apg), field goals made (157) and attempted (363) and free throw percentage (.783), among others. As a result, the Huntsville, Ala., native earned a spot on the league's all-freshman team.
In the team's lone preseason action against Georgia Tech, Lewis tallied 20 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in the 93-65 win.
In addition to being named to the Coaches All-SEC First Team, Lewis was selected to the Preseason All-SEC Second Team as voted on by a panel of SEC and national media members, which was unveiled on October 15 during SEC Media Days.
The coaches' preseason All-SEC first and second teams consist of a minimum of eight players on each squad, voted on by the SEC basketball head coaches.
The 2019-20 campaign begins Nov. 5, with conference play set to begin Jan. 4. The 2020 SEC Tournament will be Mar. 11-15 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. The Tide will host Penn in its season opener at 7 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum. The contest will air on SEC Network+.
