Former Alabama players continue to excel on both sides of the football
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 10th week of the 2019 season in the National Football League wrapped up on Monday. Below is a look at some of the highlights from former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.
Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs continued their impressive seasons, posting big numbers this past Sunday. Henry carried the ball 23 times for 188 yards and two scores in the Tennessee Titans' win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Following the huge performance, the former Heisman winner moved himself to fifth in the league in rushing yards with 832. Jacobs also continued his standout rookie season in Oakland, rushing 16 times for 71 yards and a touchdown to go with three catches for 30 yards. The first-year back helped the Raiders to a 26-24 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
A pair of pass catchers were impressive in week 10. Former Tide wide receiver Amari Cooper showed out on Sunday night for the Dallas Cowboys. Cooper hauled in 11 catches for 147 yards and added one touchdown. His effort moved his receiving yardage total to 848 on the season, good for third in the league. Also excelling in the passing game this weekend was O.J. Howard. The Tampa Bay tight end caught four passes for 47 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown grab. Howard's score would prove the difference as the Buccaneers took down the Arizona Cardinals by a narrow 30-27 margin.
Minkah Fitzpatrick continued to impress for the Pittsburgh Steelers since being traded midseason. Fitzpatrick totaled four tackles, two pass breakups and an interception to go with a fumble recovery return for a score. The safety's interception sealed the win for the Steelers, picking off Los Angeles Rams' quarterback Jared Goff in the final minute of play for the 17-12 victory. Since heading north to Pittsburgh, the former Tide defensive back has recorded a league-leading five interceptions to go with two defensive scores, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Titans linebacker Rashaan Evans continued his contributions to Tennessee's success with a big game this weekend. Evans recorded seven tackles, including a sack, and reached the end zone after recovering a fumble and taking it 53 yards to the house. Also posting a strong performance on the defense was Dalvin Tomlinson, with the Giants' tackle recording nine tackles, including a sack, and a quarterback hurry. Joining him with a strong performance up front was Jarran Reed of the Seahawks. Reed had a busy day in the backfield, tallying four tackles, including 1.5 sacks, a pass breakup and forced a fumble. His efforts in Seattle's huge defensive performance helped knock off the previously undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, 27-24.
