Alabama Men's Tennis Ready to Send Six Players to Samford Round Robin

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis is back in action this weekend with six players traveling to Birmingham for the Samford Round Robin, while competing from Friday, Oct. 4 to Sunday, Oct. 6 on the campus of Samford University. The six players include juniors Sam Fischer and Jeremy Gschwendtner, senior Alexey Nesterov, junior Riccardo Roberto, along with freshmen Avi Shugar and Marcelo Sepulveda Garza.

Tournament Info

The Samford Round Robin is a mock dual tournament which puts players from one school against another specific school in each round of play. The tournament draws will not be released until Friday morning.
Alabama is slated to compete against UAB players in doubles and singles on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Each day play will begin with doubles at 9 a.m. and singles at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Other teams represented in the tournament include Belmont, Samford, MTSU, Tennessee, Troy, South Alabama and Tulane.

Player Info

Nesterov leads the team this fall with a 6-1 singles record, as this is the senior's third tournament of the season. The Moscow, Russia, native is also a perfect 6-0 in doubles competition.
Roberto is back in action after his strong performance in the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall in September where he won both his singles and doubles draws and has a 4-0 singles mark along with going 3-0 in doubles.
Fischer will see his first action of the season after playing in key doubles matches down the stretch in last year's dual match season.
