Martin is one of 14 athletes from around the league to earn this recognition
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior defender Nealy Martin was named to the 2019 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league's office. Martin joins 13 other student-athletes on this honorable list that recognizes those that go above and beyond to give back to their community.
During her time at the Capstone, Martin has accumulated over 215 hours volunteering and helping those in need within the local community, more than any other member on the soccer team. The bulk of her hours come from assisting on mission trips – Nicaragua in 2017 and Costa Rica in 2018. During both trips to the Nicaraguan Refugee Camp and Costa Rica, she aided in community restoration.
Martin also led the SAAC Halloween Extravaganza, setting up the event, creating games for the athletes to play, and interacting with community members in the creation of the party. Most recently, she volunteered in helping to fundraise for the Lee County Tornado Relief, a small county of Alabama located about three hours west of Tuscaloosa and UA.
Martin is one of three seniors that will be recognized at the match on Thursday, Oct. 31 against Vanderbilt for Senior Night.
