Alabama Dominates Singles Play in Day One at ITA Regionals

The Crimson Tide went 5-1 in the first round of singles action
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alabama women's tennis team started the first day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Championships with five first round singles wins on Friday in Baton Rouge, La.
Round-by-Round
- No. 7 seed freshman Isabella Harvison moved to round two after a walkover, while freshman Ares Teixido picked up her first collegiate singles win with a straight-set victory over Jimena Garbino of UL-Monroe, 6-3, 6-1.
- Senior Alba Cortina Pou bested Harriet Hamilton from Jacksonville State, 6-2, 6-1, while senior Luca Fabian picked up a gritty 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, victory over Laura Fabrizi of Tulane. Junior Moka Ito also added to her singles win total after cruising, 6-2, 6-1, against Ela Iwaniuk from Northwestern State.
- After dropping her main draw match, senior Ann Selim won in her consolation, 6-1, 6-0, against Garbino.
- In doubles, Ito/Harvison bested Picaut/Naguera of UL-Lafayette, 8-7(5), while Fabian/Selim dropped their doubles match and Cortina Pou/Teixido fell to No. 14 Adaloglou/Racine of Mississippi State.
Tournament Note
- With their doubles win on Friday, Harvison/Ito are now 3-0 as a duo early in the fall season.
- Teixido picked up her first-career singles win on Friday after moving on to the second round.
