Crimson Tide Cross Country Split for Princeton, Pre-National Invitationals on Saturday

Men’s 8K begins at 9 a.m. CT at the Princeton Invitational, followed by the women’s 6K at 10 a.m. CT at the Pre-National Invitational
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide men's and women's cross country team will split up Saturday, sending the men to the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J., and women to the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
As a prequel to the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championship, the Crimson Tide women will get a peek of this season's championship race at the Pre-National Invitational with the 6K race beginning at 9 a.m. CT. on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
The Alabama men, meanwhile, are scheduled to get going at 10 a.m. CT with an 8K at the West Windsor Fields in Princeton, N.J.
Leading the Lineup for the Men
- Competing this Saturday in the Princeton Invitational are graduates Brad Cheek, Gilbert Kigen, and Vincent Kiprop, seniors J.P. Brinyark and Elliott Miller, juniors Elliot Gindi and Scott Platek, sophomore Noel Rotich, and freshmen Nick Ceci, Jalen Murray, Grady Shiflet, and Jacob Wiggers for the men.
- Last time out at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, Kiprop crossed the finish line first and was named the SEC Men's Runner of the Week following his achievement.
- Kiprop was also named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week, and was the first Alabama runner since 2015 that had been awarded the honor during the cross country season.
- Kigen followed Kiprop with a runner-up finish at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.
Leading the Lineup for the Women
- Running for the UA women will be seniors Esther Gitahi, Haley Wright, and Rebecca Buteau, along with sophomores Lauren Brackin, Mercy Chelangat and Megan Patton. Freshmen Jami Reed, Amaris Tyynismaa and Allison Wilson will round out the women competing for the Crimson Tide.
- Wilson once again was awarded the SEC Women's Freshman Runner of the Week following her place of 69th at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. Wilson posted the best time among all SEC freshmen.
- Sophomore Mercy Chelangat is coming off a 35th place finish at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational where she was led Alabama.

The Crimson Tide will turn its attention to SEC Championships, which will be held in Lexington, Ky. on Friday, Nov. 1.
