Alabama Swimming and Diving Post Strong Showing in the Classroom

A total of 64 swimmers and divers earned a 3.0-or-better grade point average in the fall, with 45 posting a 3.5-or-better and 25 earning a 4.0 GPA
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In addition to enjoying a strong fall in the pool, including the men's team downing in-state rival Auburn and the women breaking a pair of school records, the Crimson Tide also posted another outstanding semester in the classroom.
"We are very proud of the work done in the classroom this fall," UA head coach Dennis Pursley said. "Education is the cornerstone of our mission at Alabama, and to have this kind of showing academically says volumes about the importance our student-athletes put on their studies."
The women's team posted a 3.67 team grade point average in the fall while the men earned a 3.55. Individually, 25 swimmers and divers came away with a 4.0 GPA in the fall, while 45 tallied a 3.5-or-better GPA and 64 posted a 3.0-or-better.
All-American seniors Laurent Bams, Robert Howard and Justine Macfarlane along with junior Zane Waddell all earned 4.0s in the fall. Bams and senior Ayanna Woods earned 4.0s in their graduate classes while seniors Evan Heldman and Knox Auerbach posted GPAs of 3.75 and 3.8 in their graduate courses, respectively.
Others with a 4.0 in the fall include freshman Kalia Antoniou, freshman Makenna Berry, freshman Julia Cullen, sophomore Alina Faunce, freshman Morgan Liberto, sophomore Maria Reed, freshman Cathryn Salladin, junior Allie Surrency, freshman Greta Szilvasi, sophomore Tori VanBuskirk, freshman Ashley Voelkerding and senior Marian Yurchishin for the women. On the men's side, sophomore Cade Auerbach, junior Tristan Essary, sophomore Max Kennedy-Till, junior Daniel Kober, junior Kyle Maas, freshman Nicholas Perera, freshman John Shelstad and freshman Colton Stogner also posted 4.0 GPAs.
It's a busy week for UA with classes getting underway Wednesday and the Crimson Tide hitting the pool again this Friday (diving) and Saturday (swimming) with both days getting underway at 10 a.m. The Alabama men will face Florida State, while the women will take on FSU and Miami in a double dual meet. Both days will be held in the Alabama Aquatic Center and admission is free.
