Women’s Basketball Travels to Fayetteville to Face Arkansas on Thursday Night

The Crimson Tide seeks its first SEC road victory of the season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's basketball will look to pick up its first Southeastern Conference road win when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on Arkansas at 7 p.m. CT inside Bud Walton Arena.
The Crimson Tide (10-8, 2-4 SEC) most recently lost a home game against LSU on Sunday, while the Razorbacks (14-5, 3-2 SEC) have won their last two contests.
THE BROADCAST
• Thursday's game will air live on SEC Network + with Brett Dolan (play-by-play) and Kikko Haydar (analyst) on the call.
• The game can also be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network on 100.1 FM in Tuscaloosa with Roger Hoover on the broadcast.
OPENING TIP
• Alabama will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for its first of two SEC road games this week when it takes on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. CT in Bud Walton Arena.
• The Crimson Tide (10-9, 2-4 SEC) is coming off a tough home loss to LSU, 62-56, on Sunday afternoon in Coleman Coliseum.
• The Razorbacks (14-5, 3-2 SEC) last defeated Tennessee, 80-79, on a last second shot in Knoxville on Monday night.
• This is the 38th meeting between the two schools with Arkansas holding the seven-game advantage in the overall series. On Jan. 7, 2018 in Fayetteville, the Tide snapped a six-game losing streak to the Razorbacks after winning 83-76 and picked up its first win in Bud Walton Arena since 2011. The two sides split the two-game series last year.
ABOUT ARKANSAS
• The Razorbacks have won their last two SEC games, first defeating Vanderbilt at home, 83-62, on Sunday, Jan. 13 and then against Tennessee, 80-79, in Knoxville on Jan. 21.
• Arkansas is first in the conference in taking care of the ball with only 11.7 turnovers per game, while ranking fourth in forcing turnovers, at 19 per contest. The Razorbacks are also known to shoot the three, as they rank first in the SEC in three-point attempts and three-pointers made per contest.
• Arkansas is led by Chelsea Dungee who is tops on the team with 17.1 points per game. The Razorbacks have two additional players who average double-figures in Malica Monk (12.9) and Alexis Tolefree (11.5).
• Last season the Razorbacks finished 13-18 on the season and 3-13 in SEC play.
NEWS AND NOTES
• Junior Cierra Johnson has scored in double digits in 14 of the last 16 games and is coming off a game against LSU where she tied her career-high with 27 points. She is currently first on the team with 14.4 points per game and in total assists with 53 through 19 games. Johnson is also the top-rebounding guard on the squad and third on the team with 4.7 per contest. At the beginning of SEC play, Johnson moved from shooting guard to starting at the point guard position with the injury to Jordan Lewis. Over those six contests, Johnson is averaging 16.3 points (9th in SEC), six rebounds (17th in SEC) and three assists. She has also shot 29-of-36 (80.6 percent) from the free throw line in SEC play which ranks 10th in the conference.
• Sophomore Jasmine Walker is currently the team's second leading scorer and leading rebounder with 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Walker also leads the team with three double-doubles this season and has five games in which she has registered double-digit rebounds. At 38.1 percent from the three-point line, Walker is first on the team in percentage and three-pointers made (32). Her 13.8 points ranks 13th in the league, while her 7.1 rebounds per contest ranks 15th in the SEC. In six conference games, Walker is averaging 15.2 points per game which is 12th in the league. Walker has been on fire from beyond the arc in the last six games, knocking down 15-of-32 (46.9 percent) from the three-point land, which is third in the conference.
• Through 19 games this season, sophomore Ariyah Copeland is tops on the team with 1.2 blocks per game (T-8th in SEC) and second on the squad with 6.6 rebounds (17th in SEC) per contest. Copeland is also putting up 7.9 points per game, compared to averaging three points a game a season ago. The Columbus, Ga., native is second on the team with two double-doubles this season and has started the last 10 games for the Tide.
• Getting off to a hot start has been key for the Tide this season, when leading at half UA is 9-0, while when trailing, 1-9.
