Women's Basketball to Celebrate 25th Anniversary of 1994 Final Four Team on Sunday
Join us in welcoming back and celebrating our 1994 Final Four women's basketball team on Sunday, January 20. The recognition of the 25th anniversary will take place at halftime of our game against LSU, which tips at 1 p.m.
Track & Field and Tennis Seasons Get Underway
Our indoor track & field teams competed in their first event of the season last weekend and are set for their second invitational of 2019 coming up Friday and Saturday at Vanderbilt. Additionally, our men's and women's tennis teams kick off their dual match seasons at home this weekend at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility. The men are scheduled for a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Monday, while the women host a doubleheader of their own on Sunday. If you're in Nashville, or here in Tuscaloosa, I encourage you to come out and support our teams!
Clear Bag Policy Reminder
A reminder to fans that the Clear Bag Policy is in effect at all Alabama Athletics ticketed events. For more information on the policy, including approved bags and prohibited items, visit RollTide.com/AllClear.
Metal Detector Testing at Men's Basketball
As was announced last week, we will be testing our walkthrough metal detectors at three more men's basketball games during the 2018-19 season – February 6 vs. Georgia, February 16 vs. Florida and March 5 vs. Auburn. All of this is being done as a proactive effort to evaluate improved security procedures for our fans and teams, and we certainly appreciate your cooperation!
Classroom Champions
As we continue to dive into the spring semester, we can look back at what our student-athletes were able to accomplish academically in the fall with a great deal of pride. Each and every one of our programs posted better than a 2.75 team grade point average for the semester, with 16 earning better than a 3.0. The women's tennis team led the way with an extraordinary 3.92 team GPA, while eight other programs – women's golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving and men's tennis – scored a 3.5-or-better team GPA in the fall. That kind of excellence is a testament to the importance our student-athletes and coaches place on academics and the hard work that Jon Dever and the entire staff of the Bill Battle Academic Center put in every day.
TIDE PRIDE Renewals Due February 1
TIDE PRIDE members, don't forget that the deadline to make your contribution is February 1. When you renew your TIDE PRIDE membership, please also consider a gift in support of the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund (CTSF) which provides needed annual scholarship support for our outstanding student-athletes. Your gift to the CTSF will not only support the educational goals of Crimson Tide student-athletes, but will also earn three Tide Totals priority points per $100 contributed. You can support the Crimson Tide Foundation at any time by visiting crimsontidefoundation.org.
All 14 SEC Universities Achieve Elite Carnegie Research Status
For the first time in the history of the Southeastern Conference, all 14 member universities have been designated as doctoral universities with the highest level of research activity by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. This top designation, historically known as Research 1 or R1, recognizes the nation's most elite research universities. According to Carnegie Commission data, fewer than three percent of all U.S. educational institutions are included in the classification, and the SEC is one of only four NCAA conferences with all its members in the top category.
University Spotlight
The University of Alabama Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee has planned several events surrounding Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in celebration, but also around learning and engagement. This year's theme, "The Fierce Urgency of Now: A Day On – Not a Day Off!" focuses on seeing Monday as a day of service and opportunity to give back to the community.
#RollTideFriday
Since it is looking like we're about to get pretty cold here in Alabama, I thought we'd feature a few photos from beaches this week. First, we've got one from Cape Town, South Africa submitted by Alli Kustoff, and secondly, we have Audrey Bolus in Beirut, Lebanon.

Remember to use the hashtag #RollTideFriday in your social posts and tweet your photos to me at @Greg_Byrne. We will select two photos to feature in each blog and add even more to our #RollTideFriday Fan Hub.
