
Alabama’s Laurent Bams and Kensey McMahon Earn SEC Swimming Honors

Senior Laurent Bams and rookie Kensey McMahon were named the SEC Male Swimmer of the Week and SEC Female Freshman of the Week, respectively
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A pair of Alabama swimmers earned Southeastern Conference honors the league office announced Tuesday. Senior Laurent Bams was named the SEC Male Swimmer of the Week, while rookie Kensey McMahon was named the SEC Female Freshman of the Week.
Bams, a senior from Eijsden, Netherlands, won two individual events and was part of two winning relays as he closed out the final dual meet of his career in Alabama's win over No. 21 Florida State. He won the 100 freestyle with a 44.10 and posted a 54.00 to take top honors in the 100 breaststroke. Bams also swam the breaststroke leg on the Tide's 200 medley relay that placed first with a time of 1:25.57. He closed out the meet as a member of the Tide's winning 200 freestyle relay, which clocked in at 1:18.71.
McMahon posted individual wins in all three distance events during the Tide's double dual meet against Florida State and Miami. She won the 500 free (4:54.76), the 1650 free (16:46.71) and the 400 IM (4:21.65), giving her 10 individual wins during her inaugural UA campaign.
With the dual meet season behind them, the Alabama men and women resume action on Feb. 8 at the Auburn Invitational.
