TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – As the Alabama track and field/cross country program gets the spring rolling with classes getting underway last Wednesday and the indoor season beginning over the weekend, the Crimson Tide finds itself coming off another strong fall in the classroom.
"We're very proud of the work our student-athletes did in the classroom this fall," UA head coach Dan Waters said. "They continue to lay the foundation for future success not only on the track, but academically as well and that dedication and drive is something that will hold them in good stead the rest of their lives."
The Tide men and women combined for 66 student-athletes with a 3.0-or-better grade point average during the fall semester, including 26 who earned between a 3.5 and 3.9, gaining a place on the Dean's List. Senior Alfred Chelanga was among those earning Dean's List accolades the same semester he earned All-America honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
"Alfred is a great example of what you can achieve if you focus on excellence in all areas of the collegiate experience," Waters said.
Alabama also put 14 on the President's List with a perfect 4.0 GPA, including freshman Rebecca Billman, sophomore Maddie Dearborn, freshman Ashton Domingue, sophomore Nickolette Dunbar, senior Connor Ferrentino, sophomore Nathan Gamble, senior Nicole Gardner, sophomore Shannon Marsh, sophomore Taylor Pickett, freshman Riley Schelp, senior Haley Teel, junior Avery Stuchell, freshman Riley White and sophomore Eliza Witherspoon.
Alabama started its indoor season Friday with a solid showing at the UAB Blazer Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
