Former Head Coach Rick Moody Named to 2019 SEC Women's Legends Class

Moody is Alabama's all-time winningest women's basketball coach in 16 years with the program
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Former Alabama women's basketball head coach Rick Moody was named to the 2019 Southeastern Conference Women's Legends Class, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon.
"Having grown up in the state of Alabama and being inspired by the coaches and athletes in the Southeastern Conference, it is an honor to be chosen for this prestigious award," stated Moody. "To the University of Alabama, I am grateful for the opportunity to live my passion. I thank God, my family, especially my wife Sandra, along with the many players and coaches for their commitment to excellence and achievement. It is truly humbling to have been a part of this incredible conference."
Moody is the longest-tenured and winningest coach in the program's history after accumulating a 311-176 (.639) record in 16 seasons from 1989-2005. He also led the Crimson Tide to its only Final Four appearance in 1994 and coached the Tide to 13 winning seasons.
In addition, he coached his teams to eight consecutive NCAA Tournament bids which included five Sweet 16 appearances and eight 20-win seasons from 1991-99.
Individually, Moody coached 12 All-Americans and 22 All-SEC selections, while his student-athletes garnered 45 Academic All-SEC awards.
"This is such a well-deserved honor for the winningest coach in Alabama women's basketball history," said head coach Kristy Curry. "Eight consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, five Sweet 16s and a Final Four appearance, the accolades speak for themselves. I will never be able to put into words how he has embraced our vision as we move the program forward. He is a great coach and an even better man, and this honor is well-earned."
The Southeastern Conference 2019 Class of Women's Legends showcases former student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 14 SEC member institutions. On Mondays and Thursdays during the conference season, one individual will be highlighted on the SEC's website and via social media. Moody will specifically be highlighted on Thursday, Jan. 17.
The entire class will be honored at the 2019 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament, March 6-10 in Greenville, S.C. Each legend will be honored during half-time of their teams first game of the tournament, all 14 individuals will also be honored as a group, as well as participate in an autograph session during the tournament. Complimentary posters of the Legends will be available at the session.
