The Crimson Tide is coming off season-opening wins against Delta State while the Buckeyes open their season with Thursday’s meet
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A little less than two weeks after Alabama opened the NCAA swimming and diving season with wins over Delta State, the Crimson Tide is headed back into competition this Thursday against Ohio State.
After opening at home against the Statesmen, Alabama hits the road this week, heading to Columbus, Ohio, for its 5Â p.m. CT showdown against the Buckeyes. It will be the first trip to Ohio State for the Tide men since the 2010 NCAA Championships, while select members of the women's team competed at the Buckeyes' McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion last spring for the NCAA Championships.
It will be Ohio State's season opener, while Alabama is coming off decisive wins over Delta State. The Crimson Tide touched first in 26 of 28 races in addition to winning all four diving events against the Statesmen. All 26 of Alabama's freshmen made their collegiate debuts against DSU, with rookies tallying 13 wins on the day.
A total of 17 freshmen are slated to travel to Columbus this week, including nine men and eight women. Among the Tide's veterans, All-Americans Katie Kelsoe, Leonie Kullmann, Justine Macfarlane and Flora Molnar all swam in Columbus last March at the NCAA Championships. For the men, All-Americans Laurent Bams, Robert Howard and Zane Waddell are set to see duty in the Tide's road opener.
The two schools last squared off in dual meet competition in January 2018 with Ohio State coming away with a pair of wins in Tuscaloosa.
