MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Sophomore Patrick Kaukovalta won the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Singles Championship after easing past Henrik Korsgaard (Virginia Tech), 7-6(5), 6-1, on Sunday afternoon inside the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wis.
The No. 15 seed in the 64-team tournament won all six of his singles matches and is now 8-1 in singles play so far in the fall season. With the win, Kaukovalta has qualified for the National Fall Championships on November 7-11 in Surprise, Ariz.
"I felt great all weekend, even when I played longer matches," Kaukovalta said. "After I got two tight wins in the first rounds I had confidence for the rest of the tournament. Winning the tournament feels great and I can't wait to get to Arizona."
