
Alabama Picks Up Three Singles Wins and Two Doubles Victories in Day One of Rice Invitational

Sophomore Moka Ito earned her first career singles and doubles wins with the Tide
HOUSTON – The Alabama women's tennis team picked up three singles wins and two doubles victories on the first day of the Rice Invitational on Friday in Houston, Texas.
Sophomore Moka Ito started her Alabama career strong with a 6-4, 6-4, win over Michaela Haet (Rice) in her first match with the Tide. In addition to Ito, junior Alba Cortina Pou pushed past Amelie Boy (USF), 7-5, 6-4, while Jacqueline Pelletier dominated Laura Cabrera (UTSA), 6-2, 6-3.
Junior Ann Selim dropped a hard-fought match to Charoline Erlnadsson (McNeese State), 7-6(4), 7-5, while senior No. 70 Andie Daniell fell against Tamuna Kutubidze (North Texas). Juniors Luca Fabian and Kimberley Gintrand also fell in first round of singles and will look to bounce back tomorrow.
In doubles, Daniell/Ito earned their first win as a doubles pair, besting Zivkovic/De La Luz Montalvo (Sam Houston State), 6-1, while Cortina Pou/Fabian cruised past Pieroni/Monarrez-Yesaki (SMU), 6-1. Gintrand/Pelletier fell to Natal/Takeuchi (UT Arlington), 7-6(1), in first round action.
Play will continue tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. CT and finish up on Sunday.
