No. 1 Alabama Opens 2018-19 Season at ANNIKA Intercollegiate Monday

Crimson Tide one of 10 nationally-ranked teams in this year’s tournament
TUSCALOOSA Ala. – The No. 1-ranked Alabama women's golf team opens the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, Sept. 17-19, at the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.
The Crimson Tide will get underway at 9 a.m. CT on Monday and will face a field that includes nationally-ranked teams UCLA (No. 2), Arkansas (No. 3), Duke (No. 4), Stanford (No. 5), USC (No. 6), Arizona (No. 7), Texas (No. 10), South Carolina (No. 11) and Northwestern (No. 17). Oklahoma State and host Minnesota round out the field.
The Crimson Tide line-up for the ANNIKA Intercollegiate will be junior Kristen Gillman, senior Lauren Stephenson, junior Jiwon Jeon, sophomore Angelica Moresco and junior Kenzie Wright. Alabama will be paired with Arizona and Arkansas in Monday's opening round.
Alabama Boasts Three of the World's Top Amateur Golfers
Alabama enters the 2018-19 season with a line-up that features three of the top 10 amateur golfers in the world according to the latest Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings. Junior Kristen Gillman is currently ranked No. 3, while senior Lauren Stephenson is No. 4. Newcomer Jiwon Jeon, who finished second to Gillman at the 2018 U.S. Amateur, is No. 9 in this week's rankings.
Crimson Tide No. 1 in Golfweek Preseason Top 30
The Alabama women's golf team will enter the 2018-19 season as the top-ranked program in the Golfweek Preseason Top 30. This marks the second season in a row the Crimson Tide women have opened as the magazine's No. 1 team. Joining Alabama in the top five are UCLA, Arkansas, Duke and Stanford, followed by USC, Arizona, Kent State, Washington and Texas to round out the top 10, respectively. Five other SEC schools appear in the preseason rankings – No. 11 South Carolina, No. 12 Florida, No. 15 Auburn, No. 16 Vanderbilt and No. 27 Ole Miss.
Alabama Faces Challenging Fall Schedule
The ANNIKA Intercollegiate is one of four fall tournaments on tap for Alabama. Next up for the Crimson Tide will be the Schooner Fall Classic, Sept. 28-30, at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla. The Tide will then travel to Austin, Texas for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, Oct. 19-21, at the University of Texas Golf Club before wrapping up the fall at East Lake Cup, Oct. 29-31, in Atlanta. The four-team field for the East Lake Cup will include 2018 NCAA semifinalists Arizona, Stanford and USC in addition to the Tide.Â
