Crimson Tide improves to third overall after carding a 3-over par 283 on Saturday
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The second-ranked Alabama men's golf team carded the third-lowest round by any team during Saturday's second round and improved two spots to third overall after 36 holes at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. After carding a 284 in the opening 18 holes, the Crimson Tide ended with a 3-over 283 in the second round and will enter Sunday's third and final round in third overall with a 7-over par 567.
Top-ranked Oklahoma State carded the low round of 2-under 278 on Saturday and leads the 15-team field with a two-day total of 9-under 551. USC (281), ranked No. 20, was the only other team to better the Crimson Tide's second round score.
Senior Davis Riley (68-73) and sophomore Davis Shore (73-68) lead Alabama, as both are tied for ninth overall with identical scores of 1-over par 141 after two rounds of play. Shore was the only Crimson Tide golfer to shoot below par on Saturday, finishing the day at 2-under par 68 after carding a 73 on Friday.
Sophomore Wilson Furr (73-70) and freshman Frankie Capan III (70-73) are tied for 22nd overall at 3-over par 143 on the par 70, 7,281-yard Olympia Fields Country Club North Course layout. Junior Josh Sedeno rounds out the Tide with a 145 (73-72) and is in a tie for 34th overall coming into the final round of play.
Eleventh-ranked California (559) is in second after two rounds of play, eight strokes ahead of Alabama. The Trojans (568) are in fourth, followed by No. 23 UNLV (569) to round out the top five teams.
The Crimson Tide will tee off the final round of play on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. CT off Hole No. 1 and will be paired alongside Oklahoma State and California. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
