Former Alabama players begin the new season excelling on both sides of the ball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – This past weekend marked the start of the 2018 season in the National Football League. A total of 33 former Alabama players earned playing time throughout opening weekend. Below is a look at some of the highlights from former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.
Julio Jones continued his consistent ways for the Atlanta Falcons in their loss to the reigning Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles, leading the Falcons in receptions. The All-Pro wideout hauled in 10 catches for 169 yards while carrying it once for 11 yards in the NFL's season-opening game. Jones' totals for catches and yards each ranked second among all wideouts in week one.
The Washington defense received a standout effort from four former member of the Crimson Tide in linemen Jonathan Allen and Da'Ron Payne, along with linebackers Ryan Anderson and Shaun Dion Hamilton. The foursome contributed to the Redskins' 24-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The standout defensive effort saw Washington limit the Cardinals to only 68 rushing yards rushing and 153 yards through the air.
Running back T.J. Yeldon had a big day in the Jacksonville Jaguars' 20-15 victory over the New York Giants. Yeldon carried for 51 yards on 14 attempts and added three catches for 18 yards and a touchdown. In that same game, the Giants received five tackle performances from both Dalvin Tomlinson and Landon Collins, tying the duo for third on the team.
Houston Texans safety Kareem Jackson shined in a 27-20 loss to the New England Patriots. Jackson led the team with eight tackles and forced two fumbles in his first career game at the safety spot.
