
Roberto Crowned Singles Champion, Ortiz and Osama Doubles Winners in $15k Charity Steel Open

Sophomore Riccardo Roberto won all five of his matches in singles play
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis dominated the $15k Charity Steel Open over the weekend in Birmingham, Ala., at the Greystone Golf Club, with sophomore Riccardo Roberto winning the singles title, while junior Edson Ortiz and senior Mazen Osama came away as doubles champions.
As the No. 5 seed in the tournament Roberto won all five of his matches including a 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6), victory in the finals against No. 3 seed Nick Chappell who is formerly of TCU and currently ranked No. 934 in ATP Singles Rankings and No. 494 in ATP Doubles. In the semifinals, Roberto picked up another huge win over former Florida State All-American, Ben Lock, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6). Lock is currently ranked as the No. 449 player in singles and No. 191 in doubles.
In the doubles side of the tournament, Ortiz/Osama came in as the No. 1 seed and won all four of their matches to win the event. The duo defeated Bradley/Chappell in the finals, 6-2, 6-2, on Sunday.
