TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama rowing has announced its schedule for the 2018-19 campaign. It features two events in the fall followed by seven in the spring, for a total of nine events before the Big 12 Conference Championships, May 18-19, in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Tide will travel to Oklahoma City to open its fall season and will host Eastern Michigan, Jacksonville and Creighton in the spring.
"We have assembled a schedule that should give us several opportunities to check our progress throughout the season," UA head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "I believe this schedule presents a good balance of challenge and opportunity and will prepare us well for the championships."
The Tide kicks off its schedule in Oklahoma City, Okla., Sept. 29-30, with the Head of the Oklahoma. Alabama wraps up its fall season at the Head of the Hooch, Nov. 3-4, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Tide hosts Eastern Michigan to open its spring campaign on March 2, before traveling to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the Cardinal Invite, March 16-17. Alabama returns to Oak Ridge on March 23 against conference foe Tennessee in a dual meet.
The Tide returns to Tuscaloosa for its last home event on March 30, as it hosts Jacksonville and Creighton before traveling to Sarasota, Fla. (April 5-6) and Clemson, S.C. (April 19-20). Alabama wraps up the regular season against SMU in Dallas, Texas on April 27, before returning to Oak Ridge for the Big 12 Conference Championships, May 18-19.
Alabama looks to improve upon last year's outing at the Big 12s, winning three event bronze medals in the Third Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 4+ and First Varsity 4+.
Putyrae enters his first year at Alabama and comes from Gonzaga where he lead the Zags to five West Coast Conference championships over a seven-year span.
