The Crimson Tide’s dual match schedule features 12 2018 NCAA Tournament teams
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis head coach George Husack revealed a competitive 2018-19 schedule on Monday, which features 12 fall tournaments and 24 dual matches in the spring.
"We will once again play a diverse series of events in the fall followed by a spring season that prepares us for the rigors of conference and post season play," Husack stated. "Our home schedule will also provide our fans the chance to see some exciting tennis from start to finish."
The Crimson Tide fall season opens with the annual Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall tournament on September 14-16 at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. The highly-competitive event includes Memphis, Miami, Oklahoma, Princeton, Rice, Tennessee and Tulane.
In addition, Alabama will host the ITA Regional Championships October 18-23, while also participating in the fourth-annual Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational November 2-4.
To begin the 2019 dual match season, the Tide will open the year with seven-straight home matches including hosting the No. 15 national seed in last year's NCAA Tournament in Michigan and then against UT Chattanooga in a doubleheader on January 19. UA will host another doubleheader on January 21 when Charlotte and North Alabama come to Tuscaloosa.
The Tide will then welcome Northwestern (Jan. 25), Harvard (Jan. 27) and Minnesota (Feb. 1) who made a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, before traveling across the country to take on San Diego State (Feb. 8) and Pepperdine (Feb. 10) in California.
Following the annual Blue-Gray Tennis Classic which features three matches (Feb. 22-23) in Montgomery, Ala., with Auburn, Texas Tech, Rice, Arizona, Fresno State, Princeton and Boise State all in the tournament field, UA will open Southeastern Conference play.
A total of 10 teams from the SEC made the NCAA Tournament a season ago and the tough conference slate begins at home against LSU (Mar. 1) and Texas A&M (Mar. 3). The Tide also has home SEC contests against Ole Miss (Mar. 16), Florida (Apr. 5), South Carolina (Apr. 7) and Arkansas (Apr. 11). The Crimson Tide will play Kentucky (Mar. 8), Vanderbilt (Mar. 10), Mississippi State (Mar. 14), Auburn (Mar. 22), Georgia (Mar. 29) and Tennessee (Mar. 31) on the road.
"We have a challenging schedule this season that will provide many opportunities to be exposed to plenty of great players and teams," added Husack.
The 2019 SEC Men's Tennis Championships will be held from April 17-21 in Gainesville, Fla. The NCAA Tournament Regionals begin May 4-5 with the newly implemented NCAA Super Regionals being played on either May 11 or May 12, and the NCAA Championships going from May 16-25 in Orlando, Fla.
Alabama returns all 10 players on the team from a year ago, while being led by the lone senior on the squad, Mazen Osama. Freshman Jeremy Gschwendtner will also be eligible for the Tide in January after sitting out last season.
