The Crimson Tide continues summer play across the world
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis players are spread out all across the world playing in different tournaments this summer. Weekly updates of the results will be provided on RollTide.com.
Patrick Kaukovalta | Espoo, Finland | Finnish Nationals | Helsinki, Finland
Kaukovalta advanced to the semifinals of the Finnish Nationals as the No. 3 seed before falling to the No. 1 seed Harri Heliövaara (FIN), 6-1, 6-2. The rising sophomore defeated Hermanni Tiainen (FIN), 6-1, 6-3, in the first round and then Ilari Vesanen (FIN), 6-2, 6-3, in the second, before besting Alex Hedman (FIN) via a walkover to make it to the semifinals.
Jeremy Gschwendtner | London, England | Hoover Open | Hoover, Ala.
Gschwendtner who sat out this past dual match season, won the Hoover Open after defeating Jake Faundez, who was Samford's No. 1 singles player last season, in the final, 6-2, 6-4.
Zhe Zhou | Tianjin, China | China F9 Futures | Shenzhen, China
Zhou is in the No. 2 seed in the qualifying stages of the China F9 Futures and will take on Riuxuan Wang (CHN) in the second round after advancing after earning a bye. The qualifying play of the tournament runs from June 30 – July 2, while the main draw is held from July 2 – July 8.
Edson Ortiz & Sam Fischer | 2018 ITA Summer Circuit | Champaign, Ill.
Ortiz comes in as the No. 1 seed, while Fischer is the No. 8 overall seed as a part of the ITA Summer Circuit hosted by the University of Illinois this weekend. The tournament will run through June 30 – July 2 with both playing in singles and doubles. Ortiz will begin play against Alexander Cadigan (Kalamazoo College) and Fischer will take on Henry Fuchs (Kalamazoo College).
