Thomson comes to the Capstone after a one-year stint at Penn State
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's soccer team and head coach Wes Hart picked up another great addition to the program Tuesday with the signing of sophomore transfer from Penn State, Emma Thomson.
"What a massive pick up for us," coach Hart said. "Emma is a proven goal scorer that will undoubtedly add to our attack. We've had a great deal of success with transfers these past few seasons. Adding Emma and NJCAA Player of the Year, Katie Lockwood, along with our 2018 signing class, is going to allow us to build off of last year's success.
As a Nittany Lion, Thomson saw action in six matches, making her collegiate debut against Hofstra on Aug. 20. According to TopDrawerSoccer.com, Thomson ended her high school career ranked as the 14th-best forward in the country and the 30th-best player in the nation.
During her high school career, the Park Ridge, Ill., native was named a three-time NSCAA All-American and a 2017 Spring TeamSnap All-American, while also earning all-region and all-state honors. As a senior at Maine South High School, Thomson's 33 goals and seven assists helped her earn the 2016-17 Gatorade State Girls Soccer Player of the Year Award in Illinois. On the club level, Thomson led Sockers FC Chicago to back-to-back U.S. Club Soccer National titles (2012-13), while also representing the U.S. Women's National Team at the U14, U15 and U17 levels.
Coach Hart has turned in an impressive offseason, as Thomson becomes the eighth new addition to the Crimson Tide soccer program after singing junior college transfer Katie Lockwood in March, sophomore transfer Nicole Strahl from Troy in January, and adding five on National Signing Day including Abigail Bivens, Kaitlyn Madden, Riley Mattingly, Reyna Reyes and Kathryn Rogers.
Hart has a knack for attracting top transfers, as Thomson becomes the fifth transfer to join Alabama since his arrival at the Capstone. Lockwood, became the second NJCAA Player of the Year to play for coach Hart. Celia Jimenez Delgado was the first to earn the honor in 2014 after her standout season at Iowa Western Community College. Other past transfers include Chatham DeProspo and Abbie Boswell, who have led the Tide in numerous categories and have been leaders on and off the field.
