Alabama Men’s Tennis Represented in Final Oracle/ITA Rankings

Crimson Tide junior Mazen Osama finished at No. 8 in the final singles rankings
TEMPE, Ariz. – Junior Mazen Osama ended the season as the highest ranked Alabama singles player in UA history after coming in at No. 8 in the final Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings. Osama and partner sophomore Edson Ortiz ended as the No. 38 doubles pair in the country, while the team also finished at No. 34 in the nation.
Osama surpassed Francisco Rodriguez (1999) and John Stimpson (1990) who held the highest ranking in UA history by finishing at No. 10 in the ITA Singles Rankings in their respective seasons. The Cairo, Egypt native, became the first Alabama men's tennis player to make it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Singles Tournament, before advancing to the quarterfinals with his 6-4, 6-1, win over No. 47 Runhao Hua (Michigan) in the Round of 16. Osama ended his season after falling to No. 1 Martin Redlicki (UCLA) in the quarterfinals.
Osama also became the first All-American for Alabama men's tennis since 2001 after qualifying as a Top-16 national seed in the NCAA Singles Tournament. In addition, he was named First Team All-SEC this season.
As a team, Alabama finished with a 20-13 record marking only the 10th time in program history that UA ended with a 20-win season. The Crimson Tide reached the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007 and only the fourth time in program history.
