The Crimson Tide sends all five championship crews to Sunday's Grand Finals for the second year in a row
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Alabama rowing opened action at the Big 12 Championships Saturday at Melton Hill Lake, qualifying all five crews to Sunday Grand Final events. It was the second straight year that the Tide has sent all five championship crews to Conference Grand Finals.
"Everybody executed pretty well today," UA head coach Larry Davis said. "We got ourselves in a position in the Grand Finals to have a shot at making an improvement from last year."
The Crimson Tide racked up second-place finishes in every event, starting with the First Varsity 8+ in a narrow battle over third-place Kansas. The 2V8+, 1V4+, 2V4+, 3V8+ and 3V4+ each followed suit with second-place finishes in their respected events.
Alabama will be back in action for Grand Finals tomorrow morning, 9 a.m. ET, as it aims to improve upon last year's outing of three conference medals and a fourth-place finish overall.
"It'll be a lot of tight racing but I think the girls' heads are in the right place," Davis said. "We're looking forward to seeing if we can achieve a higher finish than we did last year.
