Alabama Track & Field’s Daniel Haugh Sets School Record in the Hammer Throw at LSU Invitational

Junior one of seven winners for the Crimson Tide in final regular season meet of 2018
BATON ROUGE, La. – Alabama track & field's Daniel Haugh set the second school record of his career with his winning toss in the men's hammer throw to highlight a seven-victory day for the Crimson Tide at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday afternoon.
Haugh won the hammer throw with a school mark of 241-2 (73.50m). The junior bettered the previous record by seven feet and is the first man to surpass 240 feet in the event in Alabama history. The record is the second set by the Marietta, Ga., native at Alabama. Haugh set the UA indoor record in the weight throw at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Junior Kord Ferguson won the men's shot put with a mark of 62-6 ½ (19.06m), equaling the sixth-best effort in school history. Ferguson also had an earlier attempt in the competition that ranks No. 10 all-time at Alabama. Freshman Christian Edwards won the men's triple jump with a personal best of 52-4 (15.95m). The leap is also a UA season best and equals the 10th-best mark in school history.
Senior Ruebin Walters won the men's 110-meter hurdles in a time of 13.54 while freshman J.P. Brinyark won the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 15:05.75.
For the Tide women, junior Portious Warren was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put with a mark of 55-3 ¾ (16.86m). The effort ranks No. 6 all-time at Alabama and is Warren's sixth top-10 school mark in the event this season. Senior Filippa Fotopoulou was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump with a mark of 20-1 ½ (6.13m).
"First of all, congratulations to Daniel Haugh for setting the school record in the hammer throw," Alabama head coach Dan Waters said. "To pass the previous mark by seven feet is a remarkable effort. We had several other good performances today as well but now it's time to set our focus on the SEC Championships."
Saturday's meet wrapped up the 2018 regular season schedule for the Crimson Tide. Alabama will begin postseason competition at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 11-13, in Knoxville, Tenn.

4x100-Meter Relay – Alabama's 4x100-meter relay of sophomore Alize Ford, junior Keitavious Walter, senior Ruebin Walters and freshman Champion Allison was the No. 2 collegiate finisher in 39.97.

High Jump – Junior Shelby McEwen finished third in the high jump with a clearance of 6-10 ¾ (2.10m).

4x100-Meter Relay – Alabama's 4x100-meter relay quartet of freshmen Daija Lampkin and Tamara Clark and sophomores Symone Darius and Takyera Roberson finished second in 43.47. The time is the sixth-fastest in school history and the third UA top-10 mark for the relay this season.
Hammer Throw – Senior Danielle McConnell was the No. 2 collegiate finisher in the hammer throw with a mark of 191-5 ¼ (58.35m).
