Defensive back is fifth Crimson Tide player taken in this year’s draft
ARLINGTON, Texas - University of Alabama defensive back Ronnie Harrison was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round of the 2018 National Football League Draft Friday evening at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Harrison was selected with the 29th pick in the third round (93rd overall) by the Jaguars and joins Thursday's first round picks Minkah Fitzpatrick (No. 11, Miami), Da'Ron Payne (No. 13, Washington), Rashaan Evans (No. 22, Tennessee) and Calvin Ridley (No. 26, Atlanta) in Alabama's 2018 NFL Draft class.
Harrison provided veteran experience in the Crimson Tide's deep secondary as a junior in 2017. He was selected to Sports Illustrated's All-American squad as a second teamer and recognized as a First Team All-SEC honoree by the Associated Press while earning a second-team nod from the conference coaches. The Tallahassee, Fla., native finished tied for the Alabama lead with 74 total tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss (-23 yards), 2.5 sacks (-18 yards) and four pass breakups. His three interceptions last season tied for second on the team. Harrison collected 47 tackles against the run to rank third among Tide defenders in that category.
Rounds 4-7 will take place Saturday afternoon from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas to conclude the 2018 NFL Draft.
