TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball bolstered its 2018 roster with the addition of a Division-I transfer and two NLI signees.
Doris Carter transfers to Tuscaloosa after spending her freshman season at USF. There, she led the Bulls with 255 kills and was second among American Conference freshmen with a 2.71 kills-per-set average. Carter originally hails from Lexington, Ky., where she was a four-year letterwinner at Tates Creek High School. She finished her prep career with over 1,200 kills, 1,000 digs, 100 blocks and 100 service aces, earning first team all-state, all-region and all-district honors as a junior and senior.
"Doris is a strong competitor that will impact our program immediately," UA head coach Ed Allen said. "She brings experience and production in from her year at South Florida. She has a heavy arm that will pressure opponents along with her ability to hit shots. We expect her to challenge for playing time on the outside right away."
Mylana Byrd was a senior team captain at Episcopal High School in Houston, Texas. She was named to the 2017 Under Armour All-America team and led Episcopal to a Southwest Preparatory Conference title. She was named one of Houston's "Top Volleyballers" by Vype in 2016. With her club team, Absolute Volleyball Academy, she played in the Lone Star Regionals in 2014 and 2016 and won the Skyline Award in 2014 and 2015.
"Mylana is an extremely versatile player that can set, hit and block. We expect her to provide us with some offensive flexibility and some much needed size on the right side."
Eboni Harris attended Vanguard High School, leading the team to runner-up finishes at the state championships in both 2014 and 2016. She is a three-time Ocala Star Banner All-County honoree and was recognized on PrepVolleyball's list of "Senior Aces" for the class of 2018. She played club volleyball with Ocala Power United and has qualified for the USA Volleyball Junior Olympics on seven different club teams from 2010-17.
"Eboni is a dynamic outside that will add some much needed depth at the position. She is fully capable of developing into a six-rotation player for us."
The Crimson Tide open its 2018 season August 24-25 in Charleston, S.C., facing Western Kentucky, Missouri State and the College of Charleston.
