TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball senior Carrigan Fain has received the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program award from the U.S. State Department to teach English abroad during the 2018-19 academic year at the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange.
"It is a huge honor to have been selected for such a prestigious award," Fain said. "I hope that while serving in Malaysia I can apply some of the leadership skills I've learned as a student-athlete at the University of Alabama. I am so excited to learn about their culture while also teaching them about mine."
The Crimson Tide senior is one of nearly 2,000 U.S. citizens who will participate in the Fulbright U.S. Student program during the 2018-19 academic year. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement as well as their record of service and leadership potential in their respective fields.
"We are so proud of Carrigan and this outstanding honor," UA head coach Patrick Murphy said. "She is the perfect recipient of a Fulbright and she is adventuresome and service-oriented."
The Fulbright Program, which operates in over 160 countries worldwide, is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government, funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress and U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs.
