Alexa Guarachi and Erin Routliffe win second consecutive doubles title in Dothan, Ala.
DOTHAN, Ala. – Alabama women's tennis alumni Erin Routliffe and Alexa Guarachi won the Hardee's Pro Classic Women's $80K doubles title in Dothan, Ala. Saturday afternoon. The tandem defeated Americans Sofia Kenin and Jamie Loeb, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9, in the finals.
In the first round, the former Crimson Tide standouts moved past Olga Ianchuk (Ukraine) and Katerina Steward (USA), 6-1, 6-2, and later topped the pairing of Camilla Rosatello (Italy) and Sofia Shapatava (Georgia), 7-6(2), 3-6, 10-6, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal match, the pairing handled USA's Quinn Gleason and Ashley Kratzer, 7-6(5), 6-4, before moving on to the final match where the duo ousted Kenin/Leob to clinch the doubles title.
On April 13, the pairing won the Legacy Credit Union Women's $25K Pro Tennis Classic doubles title in Pelham and claimed another doubles title in Toronto for the $60,000 ITF Women's Circuit Tournament on Nov. 5.
During their time at Alabama, Guarachi and Routliffe both earned multiple All-American and All-SEC honors. One of the most successful doubles players in Alabama history, Routliffe won back-to-back NCAA Doubles Championships (2014 and 2015) and finished as the runner-up in last year's doubles championship match. Routliffe was also a part of the Crimson Tide's first SEC Championship squad in 2014. Guarachi ended her career at the Capstone with 109 victories in singles, which is the most singles wins ever recorded by a player in Alabama history, and wrapped up her doubles campaign with teammate Courtney McLane with 69 wins, which tops the Tide's all-time doubles list.
