
Alabama Track & Field Opens Weekend with a Pair of Wins and Multiple School Top-10 Marks

Daniel Haugh and Christian Edwards win at Auburn; Tide distance trio run into UA record book at Stanford
AUBURN, Ala. – Alabama track & field opened competition at the Auburn's War Eagle Invitational and Stanford's Cardinal Classic with a pair of victories and six school top-10 performances on Friday.
At Stanford late on Friday evening, Alabama juniors Vincent Kiprop (13:37.92) and Gilbert Kigen (13:40.99) and senior Alfred Chelanga (13:42.11) finished third, fourth and seventh, respectively, in the invitational 5,000 meters. The times are among the 10 fastest in the nation, rank 2-3-4 all-time at Alabama and are personal bests for all three men.
At Auburn, junior Daniel Haugh won the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 230-0 (70.10m) that ranks No. 4 all-time at Alabama. Freshman Christian Edwards won the triple jump with a personal- and team season-best leap of 51-5 (15.67).
In the lone running event for the Tide men, sophomore J.P. Brinyark was the No. 4 collegiate finisher in the 5,000 meters with a personal best time of 14:44.57. Senior Evan Prizy finished 13th in 15:14.10.
For the Tide women on Friday, freshman Jaimie Robinson was the No. 2 collegiate finisher in the triple jump with a mark of 42-9 ½ (13.04m), which ranks No. 4 all-time at Alabama. Junior Tamara Moncrieffe was the No. 4 collegian with a personal best of 42-4 ¼ (12.92m) that equals the seventh-best mark in school history.
On the track, freshman Margot Dooley finished ninth in the 1,500 meters in 4:43.01. The race was her outdoor collegiate debut at that distance. Freshman Maddie Dearborn (17:30.40), sophomore Brittany Tolson (17:51.07), junior Brianna Koshy (17:59.36) and freshman Shannon Marsh (18:04.84) finished 8th, 11th, 15th and 16th, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. The times are personal bests for Dearborn, Tolson and Koshy.
Day 2 of the War Eagle Invitational will get underway at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday with the women's pole vault. Running events will begin at 12:10 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay. Alabama will return to action at the Cardinal Classic beginning at 7 p.m. CT with the men's 3,000-meter steepelechase.
