Andie Daniell defeated her third ranked opponent of the season while Kylie Moulin picked up her first SEC singles win
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team dropped a tough, hard-fought battle to No. 39 LSU, 4-3, Friday night at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. Junior Andie Daniell picked up her third win over a ranked opponent while freshman Kylie Moulin won her first singles match in conference play.
Competition was hot from the start as the Tigers took the first doubles match, 6-3, on court two, but the Tide answered back after sophomores Luca Fabian and Kimberley Gintrand defeated Rabalias/Vasilyuk, 6-3, at No. 3. For the doubles point, the match on court one was tied at 5-5, before the Tigers' 41st-ranked doubles pair won back-to-back games to give LSU the 1-0 lead.
The Tigers' lead did not last long as Alabama started singles play on a roll. Moulin quickly knotted the match at one apiece after dominating Ashton Rabalais on court six with a clean, 6-0, 6-0, sweep. Sophomore Alba Cortina-Pou then moved the Tide into the 2-1 lead, after handling Luba Vasilyuk, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6.
However, LSU responded by winning back-to-back matches at No. 2 and No. 4, defeating senior Smith Hinton, 6-3, 6-1, on court two, while topping sophomore Ann Selim, 7-5, 6-1, on court four. Then, Alabama quickly answered back, thanks to Daniell taking care of business at No. 1, downing No. 85 Ryann Foster, 6-2, 6-3, to tie the match at 3-3.
With the match on the line, LSU's 71st-ranked singles player in the nation, Jessica Golovin, clinched the conference win for the Tigers, defeating sophomore Jacqueline Pelletier, 7-5, 6-3.
Alabama falls to 14-14 on the season and 1-11 in the conference, while LSU improves to 14-8 overall and 5-7 in league play.
Up next, Alabama will conclude its regular season against No. 32 Texas A&M on April 15 at 1 p.m. CT. Alabama women's tennis will recognize Smith Hinton and team manager Nikki Shiver for Senior Day during the match against the Aggies.
