Alabama Distance Runners to Compete in Two Bay Area Meets on Friday

Tide runners will compete in the 10,000 meters at Stanford and San Francisco State
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track & field distance squad will be in action this weekend as the Crimson Tide has entered six student-athletes (four men, two women) in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. The Tide will also have two men in action in the 10,000 meters at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival in Hayward, Calif. All races will take place on Friday, March 30.
Alabama Entries
Competing in the 10,000 meters for the Alabama men at Stanford on Friday evening will be juniors Alfred Chelanga, Gilbert Kigen, Vincent Kiprop and senior Conner Thompson. The race will be the 2018 outdoor debut for all four men. Running the 10k for the Crimson Tide women will be sophomore Elisabeth Danis and freshman McKenzie Yanek.
Sophomore J.P. Brinyark and freshman Chase Buckelew will make their season debuts for the Tide men Friday morning in the 10,000 meters at the San Francisco State meet, which is being held at Chabot College in Hayward, Calif.

"The Stanford Invitational is one of the top distance competitions in the country each season. This will be a good opening test for our men and women who are scheduled to run on Friday evening. The San Francisco State Distance Carnival will also have a strong field for J.P. and Chase to test themselves in their first 10,000 meter race of 2018."
Alabama to Host Crimson Tide Invitational Presented by Beynon Sports, April 6-7
Alabama will compete at home for the only time this season when the Tide hosts the 2018 Crimson Tide Invitational presented by Beynon Sports, April 6-7 at the Sam Bailey Track & Field Complex. Among the teams scheduled to compete in the two-day meet are Clemson, Louisville, Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. The meet will get underway Friday, April 6 with field events at 3:30 p.m. CT. Running events will begin at 8:40 p.m. CT. The CTI will continue on Saturday with field events at 9:10 a.m. CT and running events at 11:40 a.m. CT.
